Celebrating National Ice Cream Day! (Kinda)

Thursday, August 01, 2013

In the country near Hillsborough, North Carolina, there is a big farm with a little country store on it.

When a Sunday afternoon drive leads you to the beautiful countryside where the farm is, you can't help but feel that life is good.

When you pass the country store/creamery and see a sign that says it's National Ice Cream Day, life gets even better.

Ice cream tends to make life better, if you hadn't noticed.

Though I've been to Maple View Creamery many times, the 'Ice Cream' sign over to door always makes my happy.

All the best places have 'Ice Cream' written over their door frame.

My dad and mom shared 'Carolina Crunch' ice cream while I frantically tried to decide whether I should stick to my classic Mint Chocolate Chip or try something new.

Even though it was National Ice Cream Day, I was rebellious. I tried something new.

I tried the flavor of the day: Peanut Butter Froyo. Even though it's not technically ice cream, how could I pass it up? I mean I am the Peanut Butter Lover!

After we paid for our ice cream (and froyo), we went out to sit on the lovely rockers in front of the store.

We watched the occasional car pass, tried to eat our ice cream before it melted and spilled on us, and chatted for nearly an hour.

When a bus of  nursing home residents came to get their ice cream fix, we hopped up so there would be enough seats and called it a day.

After eating our fair share of ice cream and froyo, it was time to go home and take a dip in the pool!

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream? Mine's mint chocolate chip or vanilla!
Ice Cream or Froyo? I like froyo with tons of toppings! The more the merrier, righttt?

  2. Sweet jesus, I NEED ice cream now! Also this totally happened to me this week with national cheesecake day. Went on a double date to the cheesecake factory only to arrive to a big sign saying it was national cheesecake day... perfection! (never mind that it was more crowded- half off cheesecakes for the win!)

  4. I'm pretty weird about my ice cream! I only like Green Tea or Coffee, which is actually okay because that means I don't have to share with anyone. ;)

    1. I've never had Coffee ice cream, but I had Green Tea at my friend Amanda's house and it was SO good! My dad like mint chocolate chip, so I'm used to sharing, but he always gives me more! He loves me! :)

  5. What is ice cream really? Haha. By definition I call anything creamy, delicious and frozen ice cream. And that peanut butter froyo looks so worth it.

My favorite flavors are chocolate chip cookie dough, cake batter, vanilla, moosetracks, cookies and cream (in that order :) ).

If given the choice between frozen yogurt and ice cream I would pick ice cream most of the time. The only frozen yogurt that I really like is TCBY's which sadly moved away... But maybe that's a good thing because I can't even eat it anymore. Haha.

And I'm not sure if you get to pick what shows up on your "Have you seen these?" section at the bottom, but this Peanut Butter Jelly Chocolate Frozen yogurt showed up and I just HAD to click on it :) http://www.smokedngrilled.com/peanut-butter-jelly-chocolate-frozen-yogurt/ I would probably go for vanilla ice cream/froyo but doesn't that sound positively wonderful?

    1. True that! I really think froyo is just wannabe ice cream or basically the same thing! I usually can't tell the difference!

As for your favorite flavors, I love every single one of those. Seriously. It's crazy. I'm not quite sure if I've ever met an ice cream flavor I didn't like.

On my 'Have you seen these?' I have it set to show my stuff and some relevant things from across the internet. I was going to change it to show just my stuff, but I've found loads of fun recipes off it, so I've kept it! I just saw that same link too and thought it sounds amazing! My 'To Make' list just keeps getting longer!

  7. Oh my gosh I love little ice cream shops! A new one just opened a few blocks away and let's just not talk about my frequents there ;) I sooo would've went with the peanut butter too! I know it's crazy, but I've never had froyo. Like ever. Yeah... my favorite ice cream flavor is Mackinac Island Fudge - it's the BEST! It's a specialty up here in Michigan :D

Your life is about to change big time. Okay, maybe I'm over exaggerating, but for reals. It's so good! I shouldn't be so shocked though because I've never tried Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream. We both have something new for our bucket lists!

P.S. Leigha! I didn't have you on my blogs I love list! I've just added you!

I seriously just ran and told my mom about this! I'll have to keep an eye out, because this sounds like the perfect dessert for us pb/banana lovers! I miss you! I'm so glad we got to see you and the family this summer!

    1. It was a party in my tummy (That sounds like I'm pregnant though, so maybe I should use a different catch phrase?) It was the real deal, homemade ice cream, so I figured I could get by with froyo :)

  13. My mom's homemade vanilla ice cream is hands down my absolute favorite!! If I'm doing froyo, it's gotta be cake batter with TONS and I mean TONS of sprinkles!!

    1. Homemade vanilla ice cream? I'm one of those firm believers that MOST things that are homemade are better, and ice cream is one of those that is so relevant to that belief. Homemade ice cream is like the nectar of the gods! Sprinkles may fall into the 'store bought is better' category because they are so good!

  18. Since I missed national ice cream day (how could I not know about that?!), I think that totally means that I deserve EXTRA ice cream to make up for it, don't you? ;)
That ice cream froyo sound wonderful! I have a hard time passing up anything peanut butter too. I mean, the words peanut butter are pretty much a spotlight that screams eat me, I will never disappoint. As far as ice cream versus froyo, I love the softness of froyo and as you mentioned, the TOPPINGS, but ice cream is pretty fantastic too. Give me either and I'm the happiest person on earth.
Favorite flavor? Hm, probably something involving chocolate or caramel (or both!). But I do also love cookie dough, cookies and cream, mint... and many more!
