One Last Summer Hurrah: On the Square.

Friday, August 16, 2013

As of Monday, I have officially started school again.

It's sad watching homework and sports eat up my blogging time, but when your last Summer hurrah involved going to a little local restaurant in North Carolina with your Grandma and her brother, the fond memories make school almost tolerable.

Historic Tarboro, North Carolina is an adorable little Southern town. People smile at you when you pass on the sidewalks and everyone seems to know each other.

As you walk down the tree-lined streets and little shops, eventually you'll stumble upon a non-descriptive restaurant.

On the Square's sign is a little dirty, and it looks like your average run of the mill place, but it's apparent that there is something special about it.

At only 11 in the morning, the crowds were already hurrying to get a vacant table for an early lunch.

Since we had reservations, we took some time to soak in the view of the town while my uncle hurried to open the door like the Southern gentlemen that he is.

The happy chatter of customers, a friendly hostess and a chalkboard full of the lunch specials greeted us as we stepped inside the cool restaurant and out of the warm summer heat.

After we ordered our sandwiches, fries and drinks at the front counter, we were whisked off to our reserved table in the back.

We were only seated for a mere 5 minutes, when our waitress appeared with huge sandwiches and copious amounts of fries.

The lunch menu at On the Square is full of irresistible choices, but I didn't have a hard time deciding what I wanted.

I immediately chose the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich on Honey Wheat Bread. Full of veggies, Havarti and dill dressing, I was not disappointed with my choice.

The stack of fries that escorted my sandwich wasn't too shabby either.

After a light yet filling lunch at On the Square, we took our full and happy selves back to my uncle's house for a little chatting on his back porch.

Rocking chairs, full tummies, funny stories and gorgeous views filled my last summer afternoon in North Carolina.

It was the perfect way to end my summer vacation and get some extra R&R before catching an early flight back to Texas.

Even though I'm back to my busy and hectic life as of this week, I hope everyone, including me, can find a little bench like this outside to sit back and take a little break this weekend! (Maybe you could even blog whilst sitting on that bench? :) )

Have a laugh, look at a pretty view, chat with old friends, do something fun this weeknd! Happy Friday everyone! :)

It's technically still summer of course, but the nights have gotten a lot cooler. It was like someone flipped a switch two weeks ago, and decided to give us relief from all the unbearable heat and humidity of July. It's quite nice :)

I never wore a backpack, only a huge tote, but it was so cute I had to pick it up. Sorry for the rambling, have an awesome week!
