A Little Explorin' Never Hurt Nobody!

Monday, February 24, 2014

I've been to San Antonio, Texas 4 times in the month of February alone: One time for swimming, twice for pleasure, and once for an academic competition.

It's getting to the point where I don't even mind the 4 hour drive. Being a tourist in a city is one of the best things to do in the world.

Since I've been to San Antonio so many times this past month, my mom and I decided that we need to tour San Antonio properly.

By properly, I mean we needed to visit the missions, walk the riverwalk, shop, and rent bicycles.

We started our journey Mission San Jose.

It was a sunny day around 80F outside, so it was the perfect day to walk around the mission and explore.

I think the whole mission in general is pretty cool (imagining how it was 200 years ago is so crazy, and that church was simply gorgeous!), but I now think that arches are the greatest architecture thing in the world.

After exploring the mission with my favorite exploring buddy in da world (my mother), we grabbed bikes to tour downtown San Antonio.

Renting bikes was one of the best decisions I've made to date. Besides the fact that they have baskets, which is a necessity, it was just really fun biking with my mom.

(For those of you wondering why I don't have any pictures of my mom on her bike, she nearly wiped out when we tried to take one, so we called it quits.)

After getting lost a few times, we made it to the Alamo. By getting lost, I mean we ended up biking a half marathon. But no one has to know we got that confused, right?

After a while of battling some traffic, we ditched our bikes and wandered downtown wherever our feet would take us (which ended up being under a big tree to sit on a park bench and the mall, no complaints by me!).

Moral of the story: If you ever get the chance, bike a city.

Favorite breakfast to eat lately? Mine is my simple green smoothie recipe. It's always good. And by always, I mean always.
Favorite 'it's getting hot outside' snack? Fruit. (especially these local oranges that I've been eating lately. They are the bomb.)
Random thing you've done recently? I took a 'Transformation Tuesday' picture with a banana. Yep.

  1. I loveeee going and and exploring when I'm in a new place. When we went to Bali for our honeymoon we stayed in one resort that was absolutely huge and all we wanted to do was walk around and explore - but we got the strangest looks from staff because they said everyone else just got around by golf cart from place to place - totally a waste!

My favourite breakfast at the moment is either our breakfast bakes or overnight oats. Both are super quick breakfasts but oh so delicious!

And as for snacks when it's hot outside - it always feels like summer when mangoes come into season!

  2. You and your mom are so cute! I love that she's your favorite person to hang out with. And yes- biking to get to know a city! I haven't done that nearly enough, so thanks for the reminder :)

  3. I just love the caption to this post. Fruit is my favorite food for hot weather too. What a fun day of exploring!

  4. The month of February was a busy one for me travel-wise as well! Even though my reasons were academic, I made some room for touristy stuff like yourself ;)

  5. Girl, don't even talk about those temps. I don't have school today because it's -10 degrees!! Can I come visit you?! This sounds like so much fun. Getting some exercise while travelling? Count me in! Your transformation Tuesday with the banana is hilarious lol!

  6. Awe Katherine! Those pics of you on the bike are so great haha! It looks amazing- I definitely want to visit there someday!

  7. Love that photo of you on the bike. Looks like you have been having a great time exploring.

I love the idea of transformation tuesday too.
