Who Runs Da World? Girls. (No, Seriously!)

Friday, March 14, 2014

Yes, I started a blog post with Beyonce lyrics. No, I'm not seeing any problems. I know International Women's Day already passed, but I was so busy that I didn't have any time to blog. So, I figured by titling a post with Beyonce lyrics, maybe you would disregard the fact that this post is a bit late.

Starting this post with Beyonce lyrics was completely intentional seeing as she's one of the most influential women in the world. She's one of those women that makes women look insanely awesome. Though Beyonce is a queen, I've taken it upon myself to convince you that girls as a whole are pretty cool.

Here's why:

1. In 1937, two women wore shorts in public for the first time. They distracted men so much so that there was a car accident. (Best. Story. Ever.)

In 1937 a careless driver caused an accident when he took his eyes off the road to ogle 2 women wearing shorts in public for the first time.

fucking thank you

perfection in commentary.

2. Jennifer Lawrence is a girl. (Need I say more?)

3. Lupida Nyong'o photobombed Jared Leto in all his hair glory. Proof that girls can win Oscars (and be absolutely hilarious.) On an off note: I think Jared Leto is my new hair muse.

Oh, just Lupita Nyong'o photobombing Jared Leto at the Oscars. Perhaps the best of the night?

4. I found this little story online: One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that was not very luxurious. When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President’s Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner. Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, “Why was he so interested in talking to you?” She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. President Obama then said, “So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant,” to which Michelle responded, “No. If I had married him, he would now be the President.” (I loved this story!)

5. CoverGirl managed to prove that #GirlsCan. Oh, and they did it in less than a minute.

6. John Legend recently said in an interview that everyone should be a feminist. Reason #301 to be a John Legend fan. (I know I said I intended to show you how awesome girls are, but I couldn't leave this out. A man who supports women is pretty awesome too!)

7. Ellen hosted the Oscars. (And gave everyone pizza and basically made awards shows worth watching again.)

8. You can hate on Miley all you want, but she is the prime example of someone who literally does what she wants when she wants. The media says her career is a total mess and she's way out there, but the amount of publicity she's getting is insane. And she's just doing Miley.

9. Last but not least, Queen B herself. Cause who else could release a secret album and still have it sell millions of copies?

World tours and adorable pictures with Blue Ivy? I don't think it can get an cuter/more successful than that.

(And she's a self-proclaimed feminist who proves that women can literally revolutionize society.)

So, be proud to be a girl.

Cause let's face it. Girls run da world. (And I only showed you 9 reasons why. Don't even get me started with all my TSwift pictures and gifs.)

So, did you celebrate/do anything for International Women's Day?
What do you think of the label 'feminist'?

I lied, I just had to include Taylor Swift and those moves. Cause it wouldn't be a day revolving around women without them!
