Don't Let Summer Pass You By! (A June Pep Talk)

Sunday, June 22, 2014

Hiii everyone!

I swear May just ended yesterday, yet we're already rapidly approaching July, and half-Christmas is on the 25th! Seriously, where does time fly? As summer progresses, it's so easy to fall into that routine Netflix, sleeping the day away, and just generally being unproductive. (Which to a certain extent is completely fine, seriously, no arguments from me.) But you deserve better than that.

I challenge you to make goals, go on an adventure, and spend tons of time outside. Instead of getting caught up in plans and the pressure to have an 'exciting' summer, take time to just live and be happy. Don't take these pressure summer days for granted.

Get ready for your June Pep Talk. Get ready to stop talking about how this summer is going to be the best one yet and start making it happen.

Have a movie marathon with friends. (I totally recommend the Harry Potter series. Ugh. Too good.)

Follow this guided meditation. It's only 18 minutes, and it makes you feel SO peaceful.
Do 30 minutes of yoga. This sequence is relaxed and really more of a meditation than workout!
Hear the beautiful sounds of rain without getting wet and having to stay indoors.
Paint your nails with some crazy nail art tutorials.
Watch 26 minutes of bad X Factor auditions.
Wake up early and go for a run outside. Don't take your phone or Garmin watch. Just run in the silence          and enjoy the nature. You don't have to be an athlete to do this!
Challenge your friends to Blogilates Call Me Maybe Squats or What Makes You Bootyful Challenge.
Read Buzzfeed. I read it religiously. You won't be disappointed.
Read a book from my Summer Reading List!
Go somewhere you've never been before.

♡♡♡♡

Watch the Fifa World Cup. It only happens every 4 years. (And if you don't like the soccer, there's                      some attractive men you can watch instead.)
Go on a picnic when friends, preferably on a day when it's not too hot.
Snack on fruit. It's in season, cheap, and super duper yummy.

Disconnect. Sometimes to connect, you got to disconnect. Turn off your phone and computer. Go live.

So, what are your summer plans?

On a little side note, please consider buying school supplies for a girl in India instead of shoes during you next online shopping extravaganza. This site is transforming the lives of young girls, and you can help!

Direct quote from the website: "Even today there are chances of Indian girls being sold into marriage or sex slavery. But you can help. Simply purchase an Indian girl the items she desperately needs to attend school. Because the most effective way to break the cycle of exploitation is education. Be the change you want to see in the world xx.

  2. Love this pep talk! I had a mini 10 day break before I went back to college where I basically just begged out on the couch with Netflix. It was nice, but by the end I was getting antsy! I love the idea of having a movie marathon and thoroughly approve of Harry Potter. BEST SERIES EVER. It's basically one of the stones my childhood was built on! And you can bet a pretty penny I've been all over the World Cup… the US vs. Portugal game today was madness!!

    1. Girl only 10 days? You deserved to spend all that time just relaxing and getting refueled for college! I've been all over the World Cup too. And sometimes I watch the game instead of the players :)

  3. The World Cup game yesterday was great - we watched the last 20 minutes at youth group and it was stressful (but the guys weren't bad to look at ;) )

    1. I had to stop watching in the middle because I got so anxious. Then the goal in the last 20 seconds. That was so frustrating ah!

    2. Your summer bucket list had so many great ideas! I keep adding to mine too, so I see no problems. And YES. An HP obsession is the best kind of obsession. If having a Harry Potter marathon every summer is wrong then I don't want to be right.

  5. Love this!!! The best summers for me are the spontaneous ones, the ones mixed with ocean water, late nights with friends, Harry Potter hahah, and the smell of the barn.

    1. Ooh ocean water and late nights are great. I stayed out late nearly every night last week at camp though, and I'm paying for it this week :)

  6. My husband really wants us to get in some camping trips this summer and I haven't arranged those yet, but still, we have been enjoying. We've been canoeing twice so far with the boys on Lake Washington (it's cheap and easy for us at the UW campus) and both times were heavenly, lots of ducklings to watch, pleasure boats, and just being on the water. Then there's always looking at the flowers in my garden and grilling on the deck. Definitely don't let it just pass by!

One of my favorite movie series! I think writing in a journal is another great activity! I've already done quite a bit of reading this summer, but I plan to do lots more.
