A Very Insincere Apology.

Saturday, July 19, 2014

I've barely blogged this summer. While I should be very apologetic and feel absolutely ashamed of myself, I don't. I've spent these past few months on vacation with my family, and it's become apparent that time is the most precious gift I have to give and receive. Instead of blogging, I've done a lot of sitting, relaxing, listening, swimming, running, talking, laughing, and simply being.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss blogging at all. I spent quite a bit of time photographing everything I could. Partially because my eyes see everything as a potential picture, partially because I wanted to remember every single little thing about my family, and partially because I wanted to capture my life and share my world with you.

Yes, I missed blogging, commenting on blogs, reading blogs, and just generally being a blogger, but sitting in my Grandma's kitchen at 3 PM doing absolutely nothing was something I wouldn't trade for the world. Not being connected has it's downers, but I've been happy. I've been the type of happy where your eyes get all squinchy because you're smiling so big. (As seen below)

Growing up in the southern part of Texas, it takes over 13 hours to simply drive out of the state. I rarely get to see my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Sometimes you have to disconnect to connect, so instead of using technology and updating my blog, I spent hours with my family. The old fashioned way.
Between dinner table talks, watching tv shows together, and long walks, I found myself falling in love with so many things; my family, laughing, smiling, and life in general. I've always been a person who loved going to sleep early and waking up early, but I found myself wanting to stay up all night and all day. I craved to be awake. I didn't want to miss one moment.

It sounds silly, but one night we found ourselves around the kitchen table eating dinner together. It was just me, my parents, my Aunt Pam, and my cousin Lydia. Five hours later, we were still sitting at the table listening to my mom attempt to sing 'Silent Night' in a very pitchy, off-beat voice. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life over something so absolutely ridiculous.

Throughout all the fun and laughter, I got to spend a lot of time with my cousin Lydia (pictured above and to the left). She's only 2 years younger than me, and now she is one of my best friends. During a family get together, we took it upon ourselves to teach our Gran how to take a selfie. Though she was initially very confused, we eventually shared our selfie knowledge.

After teaching my Gran the art of taking a selfie, our little get together somehow ended up in the garage. We took a quick family walk seeing as we had just ate our body weight in home cooked food (like homegrown potatoes by my Aunt Kathy), and then talked about anything and everything until the sun had started to set.

While this blog post is wordy and seemingly a pointless ramble about visiting my family, it does indeed have a moral. Blogging is nice. Being connected is a blessing. The internet is a really great place, and I've missed it dearly, but sometimes living is important.

That being said, I've done quite a bit of living these past few months. I had my time to relax and soak up all life has to offer, and now I'm very excited to share my world with you. I get to relive some of my favorite moments I've experienced this summer as I share them with some of my favorite people on the internet.

So, this is a very insincere apology for being a ghost-like blogger these past few months. I have literally climbed mountains since we last spoke, so hopefully you can forgive my unexpected absence. Anyways, hopefully this wasn't a too dramatic blog post! Go put on a pair of nice shoes and enjoy the rest of the weekend! I can't wait to hear what mischief you've been up to!
