#SpreadJoy

Thursday, October 22, 2015

The average person spends nearly 31 hours a week on social media websites.

Whether you're the overachiever who's on social media much more than 31 hours a week or the person who occasionally checks twitter in between classes, it's safe to say that social media plays a huge role in our lives.

I hadn't really thought much about social media and its impact on our lives until a few days ago. It all started when I received a message from Hannah Williams. Hannah and her friends have started a movement called #SpreadJoy on various social media sites. They've recognized the influence of social media on society and see this as an opportunity to uplift others and to spread love. Because everyone could use some kind words or happy thoughts.

If you follow me on any of my social media accounts, you might've seen me using the hashtag #SpreadJoy. I encourage you to join in. Tweet it, Facebook it, Instagram it. Live it.

Want to get involved? This is how you can #SpreadJoy.

"This coming week (October 26-30) is going to be a week where we post like CRAZY on every social media site to spread kindness, encouragement and joy! The way we use social media impacts us in so many ways. What say or see on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook have such an influence on our lives, and we are so unaware of it. What if we used social media to only spread joy and encouragement, even if it's only for a week? DUDES I believe we have the opportunity to make a difference. Share this message of love with your friends everywhere you go. Let's get every high school involved. Every classmate. Every teammate. Every family member. It doesn't matter if you know them or not. Blow up your feed. Post every day. Seriously this is something so much bigger than ourselves. The goal is for this to start Monday, but it certainly will not end Friday...let's make positive encouragement a habit. Use the hashtag #SpreadJoy. Let's make a difference and change the world."

One of my favorite quotes is, "The world is full of nice people. If you can't find one, be one." The #SpreadJoy movement is seriously such a great opportunity to live out this quote, so I hope you join this lovely movement!

"Throw kindness around like confetti."
